The team is part of WWF-Malaysia’s Borneo Species Programme team. The orang-utan conservation team comprises:

Raymond Alfred, Project Manager
Strategises, manages and coordinates the project team's fieldwork as well as various activities related to elephant, rhinoceros and orang-utan conservation in Sabah. Works closely with government departments, especially the Sabah Wildlife Department, Sabah Forestry Department and Sabah Foundation Group.

Lee Shan Khee, Borneo Species Programme Officer
Coordinates on-the-ground surveys of orang-utans in Ulu Segama-Malua Forest Reserve. Responsible for acquiring data and information on the preferred habitat type of local orang-utans. Works closely with other orang-utan scientists in the study area and is dedicated to primate population study and monitoring.

Sharon Koh Pei Hue, Field Biologist (Orang-utan)
Coordinates the study of orang-utan health in North Ulu Segama. Loves to be in the field doing orang-utan conservation work. Works closely with other scientists on orang-utan study and is responsible to research the status of orang-utan's health in poor forest and isolated forest habitats.

Edwin Matulin, William Joseph, John Japil and Middle-Seen Kapis, Programme Assistants
Assist the field biologist and team leader in fieldwork such as transect surveys and orang-utan behaviour monitoring.

They love their work because it is special and unique (“lain daripada yang lain”), giving them the opportunity to see many animals in the wild, in addition to orang-utans. They all find orang-utans cute and – much to the admiration of city folk – think that their job is “relaxing” because it gets them away from hectic city life! Most importantly, they share the same interests and enjoy working together in the jungle.

The orang-utan conservation team is an energetic, positive group who brave scorching weather and hard work toiling through dense jungle in order to protect endangered orang-utans. Their teamwork, determination and commitment are an inspiration to their colleagues and nature lovers worldwide.
